I have been sharing about the need for MPCC to consider running just one Service for Sunday at a time later than 9 am. I did share some early thinking and reasons in the Vicar Writes on 24th August.
There has been further prayerful conversations and recently, PCC deliberated on the reasons for change. Namely:
Moving our main Service to a later time i.e 10 am will make it easier for us to invite guests. It will also be easier for youths and families with young children to come. We also bear in mind that some are using public transport to come to Tembeling Road.
Combining resources from our two Services will also strengthen various areas of our Service, such as Zimrah, children ministry etc. Currently, we do not have the resources to start a children ministry at 11.30 Service though the time is ideal for young families. Positively, it is also mean that the dance ministry and the unique energy at 1130 can add to this new Service.
In starting anew we plan to renew our Service wineskin and progressively run it by giving newgen folks more say in shaping the services and its atmosphere or values. This is key as we think about the future of MPCC. As for youths and young adults, we will continue to “raise from within and reach from without.” We want to see the potential of those in our midst while trusting the Lord for those who will join us via evangelism or other ways to strengthen our newgen resources. I have seen it happened many times in the past but we need to have a desire to start with - which also translate into prayer - for these to happen. Currently, we do not have plans to start a Youth Service and prefer an integrated approach. In desiring to reach newgen folks, we want to continue to learn from Anglican churches that are doing well in this area. We will continue to send pastors and leaders to these parishes to learn, observe and catch a fresh vision.
Now, we have been meeting at 9am since MPCC started a Sunday Service 49 years ago! It has been a long time and naturally, change can be difficult for some. We can consider serving a light breakfast from 9 am for pre-Service fellowship. In MPCC, we see every meeting time, whether in the Sanctuary or Community Hall as important. Each has its place and we should never underestimate the rich ministry and fellowship that can be built through meeting up over coffee, before or after the Service.
The freeing up of the earlier morning time slot can provide fresh opportunity in future for another Service but we will cross the bridge when we come to it. PCC is sensing that 4th of January 2026 is a good time to start this new 10am Service.
Pray with us. Do share your concerns, ideas or hopes with any PCC member or staff.
