In all my years of ministry across various parishes, I have rarely set goals or

targets for ministries, cell groups, or the church as a whole. At times, we make

projections to help us plan as leaders, but these are generally not shared with

the wider church.

An experienced church leader once told me that it is more important to take the

“right next step” than to set goals and targets. Perhaps this approach fits the

church better, given her many aims and purposes.

That said, we should always seek to improve and grow. Take Zimrah, our worship

ministry, as an example. We continue to develop our technical know-how in

sound and equipment, as well as our musical skills in singing, pitch, and

harmony. Alongside these, we seek to deepen our love for God, passion,

holiness, discipline, and willingness to put the team above ourselves. You may

have noticed the ministry’s steady improvement over the years. We are thankful

for our Zimrah members’ commitment to nurturing the worship life of the

church.

Likewise, we are working towards growth in every area of church life. Seven

groups, comprising mostly PCC members and staff, are helping MPCC plan for

the coming years and put the next steps into action where needed. The areas

and members are listed below, with facilitators’ names in bold.

1. Discipleship

Kenneth, Jason, Ps Serena, Han Pin, Jennifer

2. Sunday Services

Chew Chiat, Yvonne, Lilian Kek, Jessica Barron, Emily

3. Operations & Administration

Iain, Sally, Lilian Kek, Chin Hee, Lydia, Eliza

4. Outreach

Yvonne, Jessica, Ps Emmanuel, Ps Serene Kong

5. Communications

The existing Communications Team

6. Next Generation

Youth Ministry Leaders

7. Worship

Zimrah Leadership Team

As we take these steps, what will truly move our parish forward in the coming

years is passion, faith, and commitment. Culture changes, and each successive

generation brings fresh perspectives. Those of us who are older must be willing

to see beyond our own experience and welcome the perspectives and energy

that younger generations bring to church life. Let us resist cynicism and

encourage them as they take the reins.

I look forward to sharing more from the pulpit this morning. We also look

forward to Sister Vinnie’s sharing, which I am confident will encourage us as we

see what the Lord of the Harvest is doing.
