Bringing the Joo Chiat Community Together

Saturday, 19 December, 11.00am – 8.00pm @MPCC

As part of our anniversary celebrations this December, we will be hosting the

Christmas in Joo Chiat Carnival—a special community event with the primary

aim of bringing the people of Joo Chiat together.

Several churches in the area will be participating, together with the Katong

Businessman Association (KBA) and the People’s Association. We are also

delighted that our Member of Parliament, Mr Goh Pei Ming, will be gracing the

occasion.

Alongside the customary games, food and activity stalls, the carnival will

showcase community initiatives offered by the participating churches and

partner organisations. A dedicated stage will feature a lively programme of

music, singing, dance and other creative performances throughout the day.

The carnival presents a valuable opportunity to build meaningful relationships

throughout the wider community, including among members of the participating

churches.

For MPCC, it is important that we do not regard our location merely as a meeting

place. We believe that we have a divine mandate to connect with and reach out

to the community around us.

Creating a strong sense of community in this part of Joo Chiat can sometimes be

challenging because it is a relatively low-density residential area, with many

people living in bungalows and other private homes (see image below).

Nevertheless, many long-term residents would welcome opportunities to meet

and connect with their neighbours. Community leaders likewise desire to play

their part in bringing people together.

The congregations of our local churches are themselves part of the Joo Chiat

community. Their involvement extends well beyond gathering for worship on

Sundays, as almost every church conducts ongoing outreach and community

activities. At MPCC, many members have developed a deep affection for Joo

Chiat over the years and have come to regard it as a “second home”. We believe

this carnival can serve as a catalyst for new friendships and strengthen the sense

of belonging and community throughout the neighbourhood.

Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks!
