It is National Day today! What I am writing here will supplement my sermon, where I will lay out why it is important to pray for our government, regardless of what our political stance is.

Recent concerns raised includes:

Bridging the wealth inequality gap and cost of living concerns: This could be made worst by developments in Al. The recent discussions on the nature of economy is worth noting. As SG try to compete globally and go higher end, these could affect our lower to medium skill workers.

Foreign-local balance: It is a conundrum as we will always need to accept foreigners to work with us and yet some could compete for our local jobs.

National cohesion: Singapore faces very low fertility and rapid ageing. For example, recent fall in births was described as occurring at an "unprecedented pace". MOF now explicitly identifies affordable health and aged care and retirement adequacy among the major long-term demands on government finances

How crises in the world is affecting us, including economic instability due to tariffs, the Middle East wars etc.

Spiritually, the recent household survey is a date indicator of our casual anecdotal observation: increasing number of Singaporeans are showing less interest in spiritual matters. The work of evangelism and discipleship will be more challenging in the years to come.

Lastly, we need to pray for our politicians, beginning with the "4G" leaders (i.e Cabinet Ministers, see below) and all our MPs, starting with those in your constituency. The challenges before them, include personal integrity, professional responsibilities and leadership. We pray that all political parties will work cohesively for a better and stronger nation.
