I trust that you have been enjoying the CNY break and spending good time with
your family and relatives.
We have begun a process of planning for the future. As mentioned earlier,
during this 50th Anniversary year, we want to pray and discern the direction and
growth of MPCC for the next ten years.
We are aware that, given the nature of church ministry, future planning and
projections are always complex. It will not be an easy task. This is an exercise
where the journey is just as important as the destination. The process itself can
help us walk more closely with the Lord and learn to hear His voice. It can also
unite our hearts.
As expected, we want to engage as many of you as possible, especially those in
leadership. However, if you do not hold any formal responsibility but would like
to be part of this process, please let any of the staff know. We want to be as
inclusive as possible. We know that many of you deeply care for the church.
If you are younger, you can play a part too. Do you know that in the earlier years
of MPCC, a majority of our members were youths and young adults? The journey
of MPCC mirrors that of many local churches that have been around for some
time. As the years pass, those who are older tend to dominate church life. We
can become less sensitive to changes in culture, education, and society. This
inevitably impacts our worship life, teaching, and how we work out our
community life and ministry.
As long as older adults are present and active, younger members may not always
feel they have the space to lead. I believe this planning process can help us
grapple with present realities and be more intentional about encouraging — and
making space for — younger members to serve and lead.
The Alpha Course is now round the corner. Did you know that MPCC runs the
Course very well? Very few Courses offer home-cooked food, but we do! We are
thankful for a very committed Alpha team.
That said, the key to every Course is having enough guests. This is where each of
us can play a part. Pray and invite someone. You never know what a simple
invitation can do. When we listen to the testimonies of those whose lives have
been impacted by Alpha, it often began with a simple and casual question:
“Would you like to come?”
