True Colours

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,"

Hebrews 10:24

We are called to live our lives according to God's Word, but do our lives actually align to His calling? Our pursuit in life must be to be more like Christ, in our love and good works.

The phrase ‘true colours’ often carries a negative connotation. We make statements like, “This person is finally showing his / her true colours,” whenever we realise someone isn’t quite as friendly, kind, or hardworking as they first appeared to be. In actual fact, we all have our true colours. There are some that may be obvious to others, but some only we know – those that we keep to ourselves.

For us as Christians who believe in the Bible, it is important that our true colours (who you really are) are aligned with Christ. In order to do that, we must submit to God’s will and allow Him to transform and renew us daily – only then will our lives be aligned with Christ and his Word.

We may sometimes take pride in who we really are, but it is important that all aspects of our carnal nature – both good and bad – are brought under the transformative work of the Holy Spirit. It is only when our true colours are fully aligned with Christ that we will be His true image bearers and glorify Him, reflecting Him in our lives to those around us.

Therefore, we must always pause and reflect before we respond to someone who had stepped on our toes or pressed a wrong button. Let it not be an opportunity for unwanted true colours to rear its ugly head, but rather a reflection of God’s love and goodness. Let us continue to stir up one another to love and good works!
