God, the Creator of All Things

The very first act of God recorded in the Bible is: God Creates! He created the heavens, the earth and all life forms (Genesis 1). God created order and life out of what was formless and empty. He brought light into the darkness. God created man and woman in His own image and breathed life into them.

The very first statement of faith in the Nicene Creed, which is part of the Anglican liturgy, states: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.

However, we cannot presume that those who profess to have faith in God believe that He is the Creator. A US Gallup poll in 2014 showed that while 7 out of 10 Americans said they are believers, only 4 in 10 Americans believe in the Creation records in Genesis 1 and 2. Increasingly, more and more young adult believers (40 years and below) do not believe that God is the Creator. This is not surprising as the theory of Evolution not Creation, is taught in schools today.

Why is it important that we hold fast to the biblical truth that our GOd is the Creator? A key distinctiveness of the Christian faith is that we worship the Creator, not a created being. We believe also that God is Sovereign - He rules over the whole world and the universe because He is the Creator.

When we deny God is the Creator, we deny also that He is Sovereign - that He rules over the world. We reject also the authority of Scriptures and that what the Bible records is true.

So what do you believe? Do you choose to put your trust in the Bible, which is God's inspired word? Or do you prefer to believe the suggestions put up by man? The choice you make will determine the type of faith you have.
