Humble Yourselves Before Him

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that

at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him,

because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your

adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking

someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith… 1 Peter 5:6-9

Again and again, Scripture calls us to one essential posture: “Humble

yourselves before Me,” says the Lord. Why? Because He longs to bless

us. He desires to help us walk into the calling and destiny He has

prepared for each of us. He can ("mighty arms") and he wants to ("He

carry what only grace can bear.

Worse still, while we may ignore God, the devil doesn’t ignore us. He

prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. What

God’s strength? Unless we humble ourselves and return to the shelter

of His presence?

stubborn independence? Will you surrender and trust Him fully?

His perfect time, He will lift you up. He will raise you to walk in the

calling He has placed on your life.

As Jesus declared in Luke 18:14:

“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who

humbles himself will be exalted.”

And do note carefully what Peter is saying. He did not say, “Humble

yourselves.” He added, “Under the mighty hand of God.” It is more

than just a call to practice a classic virtue. It is a call to be humble

before Him.

So, drop your wobbly knees to the floor, clasp your weakly hands

together. Kneel in humility and prayer. Let His mighty hands take over
